Avery Johnson
Partner / Senior Strategist

Avery Johnson is the Ave of Kaden Ave (long A sound). She has been obsessively using social media for as long as social media has existed. In her early university days back when you could only get a Facebook profile if you were a University of Alberta student, she applied to the U of A just to get the email address so she could sign up. Yep - that's commitment to the craft.
Her background is as eclectic as the colours she dyes her hair. Her first degree is in Anthropology with a focus in Archaeology from MacEwan University, and she returned to MacEwan to get a second degree in Honours Psychology in 2012. Her previous professional experience includes stints as a Psychometric Data Analyst at a software tech company and as an SEO Strategist for a marketing agency. Naturally, she found her calling in Social Media Marketing and uses her education to combine human behaviour and psychographics with marketing fundamentals.
When she's not on Instagram, Avery can be found cuddling her dog and making her cat go viral on TikTok, going to movies by herself, and spending her summers camping near Pigeon Lake.
Answer me these questions three...
I think I would be a really good real estate agent - I have the personality for it. Or an archeologist. Or a psychologist. Or a psychometrician. Something where I could use my years of post secondary.
What is a random fun fact that not many people know about you?
Every time I travel somewhere new, I get a tattoo from a local shop in the area. My left arm is covered in very expensive souvenirs.
What advice do you have for anyone that wants to get started in a career in social media?
If you weren't in social media, what would you be doing?
Don't think too hard about it, just do it. Start by preparing your own portfolio by building social media accounts for fun. When we hire new people the first question we ask is, "Can we see your social media accounts?" I highly recommend being an active social media user before you decide to pursue it as a career.
